Bank on the FNB App with no data charges FAQs


Q1. What does it mean to bank on the app with no data charges?

  • It means that as an FNB client, you don't need to have data to bank on the app.
  • Previously, you needed to have data or Wi-Fi to bank on the app, but now you don't.

Q2: Does it also mean that the bank won't charge me banking fees when I use the app?

Q3: Can I bank on the app from anywhere?

  • You can bank on the app in areas with 3G or 4G network coverage. You will not be able to log in to the app in areas that have 2G coverage.
  • Where there is no 3G/4G coverage, please do not delete your app, instead use Cellphone Banking until you are in an area with 3G/4G coverage.

Q4. Which devices does the app work on?

  • The FNB Banking is available on smart devices (smartphones & tablets) with Android and iOS operating systems.
  • For Android, search 'FNB App' or 'FNB Banking App' in Play Store.
  • For iOS (iPhones & iPads), search for 'FNB App' or 'FNB Banking App' in the Apple Store.

Q5: Can I download the app for free?

  • No, standard data charges apply when you download the app. However, FNB Botswana offers you FREE Wi-Fi at all their branches, so you can visit any FNB Botswana branch to download the app. They will give you the Wi-Fi password.
  • Ask for a branch migrator to help you download the app.
  • Standard data charges also apply when you update to the latest FNB App version.

You may also use any Wi-Fi to download the app, but we advise you not to use public Wi-Fi to avoid possible security breaches.

Q6. How do I log in to the app when I don't have data?

  • Switch on your mobile data.
  • Log in to the app and enter your Online Banking password, or log in with your fingerprint (if your device has fingerprint authentication).
  • Once you've logged in, you may transact as you wish.

Please note that if your mobile data is not switched on, you will not be able to log in to the app.

Q7. If I have data and I log in to the app, how will I know that I will indeed be charged?

  • You can check your mobile data balance before you log in to the app and once you've logged out again.

Q8. What kind of transactions can I do on the app?

You can:

  • Make payments
  • Buy prepaid airtime/electricity (and earn Cashback Rewards)
  • Add recipients for both FNB and non-FNB accounts
  • Transfer money between your own accounts
  • Link eWallet to your account so that you can transfer money from the eWallet to your account without having to go to an FNB ATM
  • Report fraud
  • Withdraw cash without a card
  • Make Pay2Cell payments & more

Q10. Will the security of the app be compromised when I log in using any of the mobile networks (BTC Mobile, Mascom, & Orange)?

  • Security features of the app remain unchanged.

Q11. Will I still be able to bank on the app with no data charges when I'm roaming?

  • No, standard data charges apply when you are roaming. You can only bank on the app with no data charges on all mobile networks only when you are in Botswana.

Q12. Will my transactions be instant and will I receive inContact messages?

  • Yes, the app will still perform the same way when connected to the internet or data bundles.

  • For banking related questions and suspected fraud on your account, please call our Contact Centre on 395 9881
  • For connectivity and data charges related questions:
